Mingleverse has introduced a new feature to enhance online meetings in its flash-based virtual world. The feature – dubbed “Groups” – is designed to bridge vast geographic distances for teachers, businesses and social entities.
“Groups allow participants to meet online in an engaging and realistic way,” Daniel Ruscigno, marketing manager for Mingleverse, told TG Daily.
”Users can take advantage of the entire feature set of Mingle Rooms, including a live synchronous multimedia communication experience in 3D visuals and HD audio that runs in any popular web browser and allow interest groups to host member-based online meetups anytime, anywhere.”
Ruscigno also noted that Mingle Rooms were “the first” to merge lightweight 3D visual telecommunications with a high-definition 3D audio experience, as well as offer capabilities to stream recorded/live video and display presentations.
According to Ruscigno, an unlimited number of people are permitted to join a Mingle Group and up to 50 people can join a single meeting to maintain an intimate setting.
These groups can be closed to certain individuals or groups, but also enable invited guests to attend. As such, Ruscigno expects the new technology to significantly benefit online learning and open up new business opportunities.
Since its public beta launch in September 2009, Mingleverse has hosted more than 18,000 multi-person Mingles from 187 different countries, while Minglers have registered over 14,000 metric tons of carbon offsets by meeting online.
Mingleverse currently offers a free service as well as extensive premium options starting at $9 per month.
