Israel was forced to abort a military raid on a West bank village after a soldier posted details on his Facebook page.
The soldier, from an artillery unit, used his mobile phone to update his page, saying: “On Wednesday we are cleaning [sic] Qatanna, and on Thursday, God willing, going home.”
His page included details of his unit and the exact time and location of the raid.
Other soldiers in the unit alerted officers, and the raid was postponed.
“The division commander decided to cancel the operation out of concern that the information had reached hostile groups and would harm IDF forces,” the army said in a statement.
The soldier had his combat certificate revoked, was removed from his batallion and sentenced to ten days’ imprisonment.
