Klausner Technologies has sued Research in Motion (RIM) for allegedly infringing on visual voicemail patents. The suit has been filed in federal court in the Eastern District of Texas by the California law firm of Dovel & Luner.
“The lawsuit is based on the recent unveiling by RIM of certain new 3G ‘BlackBerry Bold 9700′ mobile phones which use Klausner Technologies’ Visual Voicemail patented technology,” the company explained in an official statement.
??”Various Blackberry models with the Visual Voicemail feature are already covered under [our] patent licenses granted to mobile operators. [We currently have] 24 visual voicemail patent licensees.”
It should be noted that Klausner has also accused Motorola of infringement for using the same patented technology in its Cliq mobile phone.
??In addition, Klausner sued Apple and a number of other corporations in 2007 for allegedly violating his company’s patented voicemail technology.
