The DigiTimes recently speculated that Nvidia could experience a “waning” market share if the company delayed the launch of its Fermi GT300 to April 2010.
“TSMC has accelerated the improvement of its 40nm process and AMD is expected to launch entry-level Radeon HD 5600/5300 GPUs in the first quarter of 2010,” wrote Monica Chen of Digitimes.
“[According to] CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, [Nvidia] will ramp Fermi for three different product lines: GeForce, Quadro and Tesla in the first quarter of fiscal 2011. [This means] that Nvidia will only be able to start shipping its Fermi-based GPUs in 2010, instead of the end of 2009 as originally planned.”
However, an Nvidia spokesperson told TG Daily that the production schedule for Fermi-based GPUs remains on track.
“Nothing’s changed on this since the (October 2009) GPU Technology Conference,” said the spokesperson. “We’ll be in production in the next couple of months.”
