The US video game industry has managed to temporarily halt a six-month downward spiral. According to the NPD Group, sales of software and consoles rose one percent year-over-year to $1.28 billion in September.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier attributed the slight increase in sales to the recent implementation of price cuts for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
“All three console manufacturers enjoyed the impact of lower prices,” Frazier said in an statement obtained by the Wall Street Journal.
Frazier explained that the launch of EA’s “The Beatles: Rock Band” and Activision Blizzard’s “Guitar Hero 5” also helped to improve sales numbers.
She added that Microsoft’s “Halo 3” was rated the top-selling game with sales of 1.52 million copies, while Nintendo’s “Wii Sports Resort” sold 442,000 units.
Meanwhile, “Madden NFL 10” for the Xbox 360 captured third place with a respectable 289,000 copies sold.
