The USB Implementers Forum said that it is making available the USB 3.0 (Superspeed) Compliance and Certification program today. And we can expect to see some devices using USB 3.0 later this year.
Today’s announcement will allow vendors to achieve certification and the ability to display the Superspeed USB logo for testing and to ensure the products comply with the specs.
The spec itself was developed by the USB Promoter Group, which consists of Intel, HP, Microsoft, NEC, ST Ericsson and Texas Instruments.
USB 3.0 is expected to deliver 10 times the data transfer rate of Hi Speed USB and bring better power efficiency to the ball, too.
A USB 3.0 representative told TG Daily today that broad deployment will begin in 2010. But this roadmap shows that initial deployment is likely to happen later this year.
Analysts from In-Stat think that by 2013, USB 3.0 will represent approximately 30 percent of the market.
