Chicago (IL) – Apple has upgraded its white MacBook with a faster processor and larger hard drive. The 13-inch MacBook now features a 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor along with a 160GB hard drive.
The lower-end laptop was previously powered by a 2GHz processor and included a meager 120GB HD.
Apple declined to upgrade the unit’s 2GB DDR2 default memory, which is expandable to 4GB for an additional $100. Similarly, the company decided to retain NVIDIA’s GeForce 9400m unit graphics card.
The updated white MacBook is currently priced at an unchanged $999, while the aluminum 13-inch MacBook models retail at $1,299.00 (2.0 GHz) and $1,599 (2.4 GHz).
It should be noted that Apple has also launched a back-to-school campaign which offers a free 8GB iPod touch – after a rebate – to students and educational staff who purchase Mac computers.
Qualifying machines include the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac.
