Fans of the 80’s classic “Back to the Future” are celebrating the day that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) arrives from the past, in Doc Brown’s (Christopher Lloyd) legendary time travelling DeLorean.
USA Today commemorates the day with a secondary front page, recreating the one Marty finds in the sequel.
Doc Brown also takes to the internet, giving the world a special message.
If you do not already know, in the second installment of the trilogy, Marty has to travel to the future, October 21 in the year 2015 to be exact, to save his own son from getting into deep trouble. Looking back at the future (notice the pun?), lots of people are comparing Robert Zemeckis’s predictions with today’s reality. It is hard not to notice that we do not have flying cars and you can argue about if hoverboards actually do exist or not, and Jaws didn’t make it past four movies, although there is a funny (and long) Jaws 19 review you can watch below.
On the other hand some things have gone beyond what was predicted: some kids don’t even know what a fax is anymore and video calls are so 2010. The rise of smartphones and the internet wasn’t on anyone’s agenda and a 3d printed pizza is the future not rehydration.
Looking at everything that was, is and can be, it is comforting to know that the future is not predictable with a good chance of it surprising us.
