It’s just insane. The world just not rest until it gets its hoverboard. And now here’s another announcement, but it’s not some from two-bit inventor. This time the announcement comes from Lexus.
As Bloomberg reports, Lexus is claiming that they’ve made “a functional hoverboard prototype.” (And as this story also reminds us, Toyota is still working on flying cars.)
Apparently this hoverboard is supposed to work through superconductors and magnets that are cooled by liquid nitrogen, and in Japan there’s been a train that levitates through similar technology, so could the hoverboard finally be here?
Lexus says that they’re going to test the prototype this summer, and they’re hoping to get them out in the world to tie in with a Back to the Future anniversary. (And funny enough, next week on July 3 is the 30th anniversary of the first Back to the Future.) The announcement may come on October 21, 2015, which is when the movie Back to the Future II begins.
