So we all know by now that the new model Ghostbusters, with an all female team, will be hitting the nation’s screens next summer. It will be directed by Bridesmaids helmer Paul Feig, who is apparently drawing inspiration from Walking Dead.
Yes, we know, Walking Dead’s not funny, but Ghostbusters of course has scary demons, and apparently this Ghostbusters will have some good scares with it as well. (Perhaps Feig wants to fuse horror and humor together like American Werewolf did back in the early eighties.)
“I was very inspired by this show,” Feig said. “What I love is howt hey play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that is’ always about [a] gauntlet run. And that’s an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot: having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural…”
It’s a trip to think that the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters was last summer, which makes many of us feel old(er), myself included. We’ll always have the first film, which will always be a unique comedy classic from the brilliant mind of Dan Aykroyd. Still, we’re hoping the new Ghostbusters could be a nice companion piece, bookend, whatever you want to call it, to the first film, and that it will give the series a fresh new start.
