You think you’ve got problems. AC/DC, who will be releasing a new album, Rock or Bust, on December 2, have recently been hit hard by several horrendous events. First, Angus Young’s brother and rhythm guitarist extraordinaire Malcolm Young fell ill with dementia. Then long time drummer Phil Rudd got arrested for allegedly plotting to kill two people with a hitman. (Many fans all over the net couldn’t help but make the joke about how this was like a scenario out of the song “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.”)
Yet despite all this, the band has vowed they’re going to carry on and “absolutely” hit the road next year, according to long time singer Brian Johnson. “I would say ‘absolutely,’ but…Nah, I would say absolutely. (Laughs)”
As far as Rudd’s troubles, the band said in a statement, “We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album and upcoming tour next year.”
It’s certainly inspiring to see AC/DC willing to go forward after being hit with double tragedies like this, although the rhythm section won’t be the same without Malcolm and Phil. Then again, I saw the band back in ’88 when Malcolm was on hiatus, and I believe Simon Wright was drumming for them, and it was one of the best shows I ever saw in my life, so we’re sure they’ll still kick some serious ass when they hit the world’s stages again.
