This shouldn’t be any big surprise, but it seemed inevitable that there would be a Game of Thrones video game one of these days. In fact, we’re surprised there hasn’t been one already. After all, there’s Game of Thrones beer, and you can even pay $30,000 for a full-sized metal replica of the show’s throne, so why not a video game?
As Vulture tells us, this is coming together through Telltale Games and HBO, and the game is coming out in 2014. Telltale is the company that’s also behind the Walking Dead games, so they definitely know how to translate great cable TV into gaming.
As Telltale Games tweeted, “It’s TRUE! We’re working with @HBO to create an all-new episodic game series based on GAME OF THRONES in 2014.” As Telltale executive Dan Connors told the L.A. Times, “The book is a great resource to understand the decisions that they made on the show and how rich the world is.”
As another Telltale exec told the Times, “It will be similar to other Telltale Games, but you can’t tell a Game of Thrones story without big battles and those kind of elements. They’ll definitely be there in the story. The way we attack them and the things you do in those battles will be more a Telltale way of doing it.”
There’s no release date yet for the game, but as the Huffington Post tells us, the next season of Thrones is coming in the Spring, and maybe we’ll see the game around this time as well.
