Asus pulled the wraps off of several new devices during Mobile World Congress 2013 this week in Barcelona, Spain.
One such device is the PadFone Inifinity, which is the company’s latest attempt to make the PadFone form factor popular. As you may recall, the Infinity’s predecessor was unveiled in October 2012 as the PadFone 2.
The Inifinity works the same way as the older device with a smartphone that slips into a tablet sleeve, allowing users to field a tablet and smartphone in a single device. The new PadFone boasts a five-inch screen for the smartphone portion and runs Android 4.2. Meanwhile, the tablet sleeve features a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200.
Hardware inside the smartphone component is upgraded to a quad-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor paired with an Adreno 320 GPU. Additional specs include 32 GB-64GB of integrated storage and 2 GB of RAM. The smartphone supports EDGE, GPRS, GSM, WCDMA, LTE and DC-HSPA+ connectivity, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS and GLONASS.
The rear camera is rated at 13-megapixel resolution, while the front camera weighs in at two-megapixel resolution. Fans in the US who are excited about this new device will be saddened to hear that it won’t be coming to the US, although it will be on sale in Europe this April for €999.
Asus also officially unveiled its introduced FonePad, a seven-inch tablet with integrated mobile phone functionality. This device boasts 1 GB of RAM, runs Android 4.1, and is equipped with a HSPA+ radio and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU.
Additional specs include 16 GB of integrated storage, a microSD card slot for storage expansion, a three-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front camera and a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The FonePad is slated to go on sale in Europe for €219, with Asus reportedly confirming a US price of $249.
