Capcom sees the potential for an innovative Resident Evil experience on the Wii U.
In an interview with Official Playstation Magazine, Resident Evil Relations director Koshi Nakanishi said the console’s first-of-its-kind touchscreen controller, allowing for a second-screen gameplay mechanic, is quite appealing.
“The Wii U certainly looks like it will enable creators to come up with all kinds of never-before-seen gameplay ideas. There are lots of things I’d like to try out on it,” he said.
Nakanishi continued, “The GamePad’s separate screen enables so many possibilities, and playing on a television screen would enable sharing the experience in a way that wasn’t possible on Nintendo 3DS. I feel it would let us create a very unique and fun Resident Evil game.”
So far there has been no announcement of a Resident Evil title for the Wii U, though the franchise has appeared on the Wii as well as the 3DS so it is no doubt just a matter of time.
Getting a Wii U on launch day will involve waiting outside a store for several hours on a cold November night.
Because of problems with the manufacturing of the touchscreen Wii U Gamepad, it’s believed that the stock will be notably low on launch day, which could lead to huge lines and Ebay prices going through the roof.
Nintendo hasn’t announced where the official launch party will take place, which is where one would expect to see the largest quantity of devices. These events usually happen in New York City or southern California.
Regardless, it’s going to be one big rush for the Wii U this holiday season. Be prepared.
