Cohen Media Group has released a preview of its upcoming supernatural investigation film.
In The Awakening, Rebecca Hall stars as a professional skeptic who is called to help determine the cause of a murder at a boys school, which is rumored to have been caused by a ghost. The officials want her debunking skills to help find the real culprit, but as she investigates, she finds that her skepticism might not be warranted in this case.
The preview is the first ten minutes of the film, which introduces the audience to the crime, the protagonist, and the major characters:
The long clip offers a glimpse of the strong female character in The Awakening, and quite frankly, I’m really pleased to see it. Most of the clip is an introduction to the type of debunking she usually does, although it is interesting to see that the public perceives her as a sort of Victorian Ghostbuster.
As gentle as the clip above is, this trailer provides a much better idea of the creepiness that’ll be present in the film.

Set in London in 1921, Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall), author of the popular book “Seeing Through Ghosts,” has devoted her career to exposing claims of the supernatural as nothing but hoaxes. Haunted by the recent death of her fiance, she is approached by Robert Mallory (Dominic West) to investigate the recent death of a student at the all-boys boarding school where he teaches. When students at the school report sightings of the young boy’s ghost, she decides to take on the case. Initially, the mystery surrounding the ghost appears nothing more than a schoolboy prank, but as Florence continues to investigate events at the school, she begins to believe that her reliance on science may not be enough to explain the strange phenomenon going on around her.
The Awakening haunts theaters starting August 17th, 2012.
