The Flaming Lips have replaced their track with Chris Martin on their collaborative LP with a song called “Tasered and Maced,” performed with Aaron Behrens of Ghostland Observatory.
The collaborative LP, The Flaming Lips and Heavy Fwends, was originally released on vinyl for Record Store Day in April, and was re-released this week with Warner Bros. Records via CD and digital format.
The Flaming Lips collaborated with a slew of popular artists like Erykah Badu, Ke$ha, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Bon Iver. “Tasered and Maced” is the 13th and final track on the re-release, replacing “I Don’t Want You To Die,” with Chris Martin.
The Black Keys have allowed their catchy songs to appear in many commercials, but allegedly Pizza Hut and Home Depot have used portions of their hits off of El Camino without authorization, prompting the band to sue the companies.
In Pizza Hut’s ad for Cheesy Bites Pizza, the band claims that “significant portions” of “Gold on the
Ceiling” were used. In the Home Depot commercial for Ryobi power tools, “Lonely Boy” was allegedly used. Front man Dan Auerbach, drummer Patrick Carney and their producer Brian Burton have filed for copyright-infringement suits. The Keys’ lawyers believe the companies’ use of the band’s songs is a “brazen and improper effort to capitalize on plaintiffs’ hard-earned success.”
The long-awaited collaborative album from Kanye West’s label, G.O.O.D (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music, now has an expected release date of August 7th. A contributor to the new album, Push T, revealed the news in a recent radio interview on Hot 97 with DJ Funkmaster Flex. Titled Cruel Summer, the album has the same name as a short film that West premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
For a taste of what to expect for Cruel Summer, a music video for the lead single “Mercy” has been released and features Pusha T, Big Sean, 2 Chainz and West.
The Orb is working on a new studio album to be released August 28th on The End Records, featuring reggae artist Lee Scratch Perry. The album, titled THE ORBSERVER in the star house, was conjured up back in 2004 when The Orb founder Alex Paterson played a DJ set alongside Lee Scratch Perry. The new album will contain fresh material as well as two new versions of oldies hits.
Perry’s 1976 single “Police and Thieves” will be presented as a dubwise track, and The Orb’s 1990 single “Little Fluffy Cloud” is given a dance-worthy vibe. The Orb has steadily released projects since their debut album in the late 1980s, their last collaboration with David Gilmour on the 2010 album Metallic Spheres.
Former Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore has formed a new band called Chelsea Light Moving, and they’ve released a new track titled “Burroughs” that will surely be a precedent of what sort of sound to expect from this new music group.
Chelsea Light Moving features Keith Wood on guitar, Samara Lubelski on bass, John Moloney on drums and Thurston Moore on vocals. Their ravenous punk sound is certainly reminiscent of Sonic Youth, but hold its own, with Moore describing it as “an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world.”
