Sprint has formed a new relationship with security leader McAfee in a push to make its Android phones a little bit safer.
McAfee, which provides some of the best-selling antivirus software for the PC market, has released two new Android apps exclusively for Sprint customers – McAfee Mobile Security and McAfee Family Protection Android Edition.
The apps promise to give users peace-of-mind when browsing the Internet, sending and receiving text messages, and downloading other apps from the Android Market or third-party sources.
The security offerings are available for both smartphones and tablets, regardless of the version of Android they’re running.
Beyond just protecting the device, though, McAfee Mobile Security offers numerous other goodies for its breakthrough into the Android world, such as:
– Location-based device tracking
– Backup and restore contacts
– Backup and restore saved data
– Remote access via PC
Additionally, users can be notified if and when their device gets lost or stolen. It’s truly an all-around app to ease all the risks that come with owning a smartphone or tablet.
The McAfee Family Protection app does not carry all the additional features above and is mainly focused on just protecting the phone from malicious content. It also allows parents to set Web filters for their children.
McAfee Family Protection Android Edition is available free for 30 days, after which time it will prompt users to sign up for a $19.99 yearly fee.
McAfee Mobile Security only offers a 7-day free trial and costs $29.99 per year after that.
