Report: Kapersky pwned and owned by cybercriminals

Well, this is embarrassing! It seems as if Kapersky was recently pwned and owned by a mysterious team of cybercriminals who managed to briefly hijack the security company’s anti-virus website.

According to SPAMfighter, US-based users attempting to download software from Kaspersky on October 17th were directed to a malicious website that scammed surfers into downloading bogus anti-virus software.

Once installed, the software displayed various pop-ups highlighting purported flaws, which prompted some users to buy a phony anti-virus suite to fix the problem.

Kapersky acknowledged the critical breach on October 19th, with a spokesperson confirming that the rogue redirection was active for a grand total of three and a half hours before the affected server was taken offline.
