Ivan Kaspersky – the 20-year-old son of security researcher Yevgeny Kaspersky – has been kidnapped, with criminals demanding $4.3 million in ransom for his safe return.
Unsurprisingly, Yevgeny Kaspersky is remaining tight-lipped over the reported kidnapping, as are Russian law enforcement officials who declined to issue an official statement on the matter.
According to the Moscow Times, Ivan Kaspersky was kidnapped earlier this week as he was walking through an industrial area in Moscow’s northwest on the way home from InfoWatch – which is owned by his mother Natalya.
Marker.ru notes the alleged criminals could have obtained information on Ivan Kaspersky’s residence from his page on the social networking site Vkontakte.ru.
Interestingly enough, privacy settings on Kaspersky’s Vkontakte page were locked down on Thursday, with unauthorized users prevented form viewing his information.
Yevgeny Kaspersky is worth an estimated $800 million.
