The incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is demanding that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declare WikiLeaks a terrorist entity.
As TG Daily reported on Sunday, WikiLeaks disseminated approximately three million classified and highly embarrassing documents stolen from various government offices.
“I am calling on the attorney general and supporting his efforts to fully prosecute WikiLeaks and its founder for violating the Espionage Act. And I’m also calling on Hillary Clinton to declare WikiLeaks a foreign terrorist organization,” Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) told WNIS radio in a statement quoted by The Hill.
“By doing that, we will be able to seize their funds and go after anyone who provides them help or contributions or assistance whatsoever. To me, they are a clear and present danger to America.”
Meanwhile, a red-faced Pentagon announced stringent new rules for safeguarding data in an effort to prevent additional leaks.
According to Politico, the DoD’s latest initiatives include both both short- and long-term solutions.
For example, defense officials are currently in the process of disabling all “write” capability to removable media such as thumb drives or disks on DoD classified computers “as a temporary technical solution to mitigate the future risks of personnel moving classified data to unclassified systems.”
In addition, the department is limiting the number of computer systems authorized to move data from a classified system to an unclassified one.
Finally, the DoD is also developing procedures “to monitor and detect suspicious, unusual or anomalous user behavior” similar to methods employed by credit card companies to thwart fraudulent transactions.
“The bottom line,” explained Pentagon spokesperson Bryan Whitman, “[is that] it is now much more difficult for a determined actor to get access and move information outside of authorized channels.”
