Software goliath Microsoft has introduced software which will tell you how green you are. And save you money in the process.
The Internet software, dubbed Hohm, tells you how much juice you’re using and how you can cut back on your energy costs.
It will introduce the software next week and is collaborating with four US utilities, allowing US people to gauge the efficiency or the inefficiency of lighting, heating, AC and other devices that consume electricity.
Hohm will also calculate how much carbon emissions people generate, depending on the area they live in.
Microsoft will offer the service to home owners and utilities for nothing. Google has already introduced its Power Meter, which is accessed from the web.
Rather than introducing legislation to force people to re-cycle, this is the carrot approach because it appeals to people by cutting down the price of the electricity they pay for.
