Brammo revs electric Empulse motorcycle

Electric motorcycles can be crazy fast, as we saw earlier this week with an electric drag bike that hit over 200mph in under 7 seconds.

If you want something a little less brutal than a drag bike, but like the idea of an electric motorcycle, you might just want to check out the Brammo Empulse and Empulse R.

Both electric motorcycles are capable of achieving speeds of about 100 mph – even though they are completely electric powered.

The Empulse is slated to sell for $16,995 while the R version starts at $18,995.

The company will finance the motorcycles at 8.9% for 72 months – offering potential buyers a $303 monthly payment for the standard Empulse. If you step up to the carbon fiber bodied R version, the price is $339 over 72 months.

The Brammo R will enter production first with limited availability in June of 2012 and volume availability by Q3 of 2012. The standard Empulse will is expected to be available in Q1 2013. The specifications for the bike are impressive to say the least, with a water-cooled AC motor and fully integrated IET six-speed transmission. The bike will seat two people and has regenerative braking. The bike is also equipped with an onboard J1772 Level 2 charger.

The differences between the two bikes? The standard Empulse features plastic bodywork and semi-adjustable front suspension along with semi-adjustable rear suspension, while the Empulse R boasts full carbon fiber bodywork, including the headlight shroud, front and rear fenders, top panel, and the rear light housing with the same suspension.

Both electric motorcycles offer a 100-mile range and a 100 mph top speed. A full recharge takes 3.5 hours.
