There are now more than 10 million Foursquare users.
The location sharing service announced the milestone achievement earlier this week via its official blog.
“One of the most amazing things about building Foursquare has been seeing a tool we designed for our friends turn into something now used by over 10,000,000 people. And as our community grows larger, we get to build things that start to fulfill our larger vision for the future. Thanks to all of you for supporting us, and stay tuned for much, much more,” the blog post read.
Foursquare launched just two years ago as a way for users who constantly updated their social networking status on-the-go to share their location with friends. The “check-in” feature has become wildly popular, not only among users but among local businesses as well. Restaurants, retailers, etc have offered special deals to users who check-in to their establishments.
Users have checked in in 169 countries around the world, with the most popular locations including Old Navy, Bank of America, 7 Eleven, Home Depot, and Target.
More than 6,000 weddings and 1,000 births were also announced via Foursquare over the last two years.
The site has gained a massive following and shows no sign of slowing down. It’ll be interesting to see how Foursquare plans to innovate moving forward.
