Back in October, Nuance launched a new voice control system for Google’s mobile Android operating systems known as Dragon Mobile Assistant.
Essentially, the app is designed to be the Android equivalent of Apple’s Siri voice assistant. Recently, Nuance updated its Dragon Mobile Assistant – adding new features for Android users.
The app – which supports devices running Android 2.3 and higher – now allows users to play music via voice command, as well as set an alarm and open applications simply by speaking.
The application uses Nuance’s natural language understanding combined with directed search capability. The software runs in the background and can be activated by saying “hi Dragon.”
As noted above, Dragon can be used to dicate text messages, make calls, schedule appointments, set an alarm, play songs, and access apps installed on a smartphone.
Indeed, the update supports Natural Language Commands such as “set the alarm to wake me at 6:30 AM.” Users can also play music from specific artists by saying things like “I want to listen to Aerosmith,” while apps are launched with simple commands such as “open Angry Birds.”
Dragon Mobile Assistant (beta) is currently available on Google’s Play store for Android 2.3 and above.
