I think we can all agree that on-screen mobile keyboards, whether for tablets or smartphones, are far from perfect.
One of the biggest downsides and most frequent complaints? There isn’t much in the way of real tactile feedback, making it somewhat difficult to touch type.
Recently, a new multitouch virtual keyboard – dubbed Slice – hit Google Play for Android devices.
Essentially, the app offers a series of circles that activate various keys and functions, depending on where user fingers are placed. As you can see in the video above, the letters associated with the different circle buttons open around the little circles allowing you to activate them with nearby fingers. You can be sure that this keyboard has somewhat of a steep large learning curve.
One bit of good news is that the Slice Keyboard ships with an integrated typing tutor game. The game looks like old school Space Invaders, with each invader being assigned a letter. To destroy the invaders you have to hit the key associated with the matching letter.
Fortunately, there is a demo version available for download on Google Play, with the full version selling for $5. Although most of us could probably learn to use a keyboard like this, the real question is, would you really want to?
