Finnish phone company Nokia claims it’s pioneering the smartphone business by offering a Facebook application on its phones.
It introduced the Nokia 97 mini, a machine with a tilting 3.2-inch display, a typewriter style keyboard and a customizable home screen.
It will include an application called Lifecasting with Ovi and Nokia has gone well overboard with the hyperbole on this app. You’re able to let people see your location and status on your Facebook account from the Nokia 97 mini.
This could be very useful if any of your Facebook “friends” are, in fact, burglars.
Jonas Geust, the VP of Nokia Nseries, claimed: “People want to bring their physical and online worlds together via the internet. With lifecasting, the Nokia N97 mini and Ovi usher in the next chapter of personal and location-aware internet.”
You customize your N97 mini – it’s out in October – by surfing over to the Ovi store. The machine will cost the equivalent of 450 Euro.
Nokia also launched the X7, a device capable of playing up to 35 hours of music, with 32GB of onboard memory and using a 3.2-inch finger touch interface.
It also introduced the X3, which includes stereo speakers, FM radio and a 3.2 megapixel camera, as well as the Mini Speaker MD-9 and the Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-505.
