Microsoft outlines Windows Phone 7 roadmap

Future versions of Microsoft Windows Phone 7 will offer advanced integration with Kinect, true multitasking for third-party apps and a Web browser based on IE9.

Fortunately, other long-awaited features, such as copy-and-paste, are slated to arrive during the first two weeks of March.

The update will also include significant performance improvements, along with an optimized Market app and CDMA support.

A subsequent update – scheduled for some time during the second half of the year – is expected to offer Twitter integration directly into the People hub, SkyDrive syncing of Office documents, true multitasking for third-party apps and a Web browser based on IE9.

“The [Kinect-WP7 integration is] not a product announcement or end-of-year feature,” senior WP7 product manager Greg Sullivan told CNET.

“That is real code, something we’re able to accomplish in the labs, but not a 2011 deliverable thing. We’ve got big ideas how we can tie these things together.”
