Hewlett Packard (HP) is attempting to take on Google’s slick Android Honeycomb OS and Apple’s wildly popular iPad with a webOS-powered slate dubbed the TouchPad.
The tablet features a 9.7-inch diagonal flush capacitive multitouch display, virtual keyboard, instant-on access and support for Adobe Flash 10.1. As expected, the device also offers access to thousands of existing and new webOS applications.
“Designed to be used alone or as a digital companion to your webOS phone, TouchPad connects you and your devices through [a complete] webOS experience,” explained senior Hewlett Packard VP Jon Rubinstein.
“Never miss an important call or SMS message – they can be answered and viewed right on your TouchPad. Plus, you [can] simply touch an enabled webOS phone to your TouchPad to share web URLs.
“[And], to automatically populate your TouchPad [via Synergy], you simply have to sign in to your Facebook, Google, Microsoft Exchange, LinkedIn and Yahoo accounts.”
