It’s always a joy to hear of a suffering millionaire, so we just had to share this one with you.
German Steffen Korbach, 28 (makes you sick, doesn’t it), has written off a ‘supercar’ worth $2.2 million, in what must be the most expensive crash in history. While there are two more expensive types of car in the woeld, their owners have always been a little more careful.
The price apparently doesn’t allow for fripperies like airbags, but nevertheless Korbach and his passenger both escaped unhurt after Korbach lost control of the vehicle and hit a roadside barrier on an autostrada in Italy.
“I began to accelerate after the 60kmh zone ended, and had reached about 100kmh when I suddenly saw a huge puddle of standing water on the road ahead,” Korbach explains in a statement.
“I felt the controls go light as the car aquaplaned on the puddle, and although I reduced power, the rear end stepped out. I instinctively corrected the slide, but just as I felt the car coming back under control, I ran out of room, and the rear hit the Armco barrier.”
The Pagani Zonda F Clubsport Roadster was one of only a couple of dozen in the world. Built mainly of carbon fiber, it has a rear-mounted 7.3-liter V12 engine, and can hit 214 miles per hour, doing 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds. Korbach was apparently dawdling along at a sedate 60mph at the time of the crash.
Korbach is co-owner of automotive company Gemballa. He already has another supercar on order – indeed, he was on his way to see it when he crashed.
But in the meantime, he won’t be short of a set of wheels – he’s already got two $1.6 million Bugatti Veyrons, two Lamborghinis and a $1 million Porsche-made Gemballa Mirage.
He seems most pissed about the fact that his wristwatch and iPhone still haven’t turned up.
