Most people have probably wished they could view content from their smartphone or tablet on a larger screen. Sure, that’s easy enough to do with an HDMI cable or a dock of some sort when you’re at home or in the office. However, when you’re on the go, viewing content on a bigger screen is obviously somewhat more difficult.
To address this issue, we’ve seen several tiny pico projectors launch over the last few years. These uber-mini devices allow users to connect a separate projector to a tablet or smartphone – and display content on the wall. The problem with such devices? It adds one more gadget to your mobile kit.
Recently, a new Android-powered tablet surfaced which makes it easy to project on-screen content. Dubbed the Smart Devices SmartQ U7, the device features an integrated projector set at at 40 lumens, meaning you probably need a dark room for the best image quality. Nevertheless, the projector is capable of throwing a 50-inch image at a resolution of 854 x 480 onto your wall from about 6 feet away.
The tablet also boasts a 1024 x 600 seven-inch screen and features 1 GB of RAM along with a 1 GHz OMAP 4430 paired with 8 GB of storage for $315 – or a 1.5 GHz OMAP processor paired with 16 GB of storage at a $400 price point.
There’s no indication of what size battery the tablet will use. I would assume if you activate the projector, even though it only has 40 lumens of light output, battery life is going to decline significantly. It’s probably also worth noting that I’ve personally used a number of portable projectors in the past with more light output than 40 lumens and found image quality to be horrible in anything less than complete darkness.
