Will Lenovo’s tablet succeed at a rather hefty $800?
If you are a technophile interested in running Windows 8 on your tablet instead of Android or iOS, well, you may want to consider Lenovo’s ThinkPad 2 tablet. Of course, you’d better be ready to plunk down a huge wad of cash, as the device is reportedly priced at a rather hefty $799.
Yes, the above-mentioned price point does include a keyboard accessory, but still, $800 plus tax for a tablet with a keyboard does seem a bit steep.
For that price point, it is pretty clear the tablet will need to offer performance on par with laptops in the same range to have even a chance at success.
Additional specs? A 10.1-inch display (1366 x 768), a supposed 10-hour battery, a two-megapixel front camera and eight-megapixel rear camera. The tablet also boasts Office 2013 and supports integrated AT&T 4G LTE access, NFC, a USB port and a stylus. Unfortuately, we’re still uncertain exactly what processor this tablet will run, although rumors indicate the chip may very well be an Intel Clover Trial operating at 1.8 GHz.
It should be noted that a slew of upcoming ARM-powered Windows RT tablets are expected to weigh in at price points between $299-$500, which is obviously a far cry from the $800 Intel-powered ThinkPad 2 tablet. And as researchers at IDC point out, despite the advent of Windows 8, tablets running Android and iOS still expected to be the main driver behind sales in the immediate future.
