Rumor: Next Nexus phone based on HTC handset

The next installment in Google’s “seal of approval” Nexus brand appears to be based on the Droid Incredible X.The next big project from HTC has been christened by Google to receive the “Nexus” branding, according to a report on, which has successfully reported on industry speculation before.

The rumor goes on to say that the phone will have Android 4.1.2 pre-installed, along with a 12-megapixel camera and a 2500mAh battery. It will contain a reported 1080p resolution and the name “Nexus 5” has been floated around.

That’s because the most distinct part of the phone appears to be its five-inch display, which would make it comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Note II and be yet another example of the trend of phones getting increasingly bigger.

Rumors from other sources have previously claimed that Google is actually looking to launch multiple Nexus devices for the holiday season. So instead of just one phone with the “Nexus” name per year, the search giant may be looking to exploit that name recognition a little more in order to drum up sales to counteract the iPhone 5 effect.

Apple’s new phone sold more than 5 million units in just the first couple days on the market. No Android phone has come close to doing that, but of course if you use a strategy of aggregation, the Android brand as a whole comes out as the winner.
