There are currently a number of ARM-powered Android mini-PCs on the market, such as the $84 Mini Xplus which hit the streets last month under the name of Mini X.
Unfortunately, the Mini X was pulled off the market due to reports of alleged overheating. Nevertheless, if you liked the device and its specs, you’ll probably be happy to hear that the device is back with a new design that eliminates overheating.
The Mini Xplus features the same hardware, as it is equipped with an Allwinner A10 ARM Cortex A8 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage, Wi-Fi, HDMI output, and dual USB ports.
It appears as if most of the changes focused on redesigning the case, as the new iteration now boasts improved ventilation that optimizes heat dissipation.
The system board is also reportedly separated from the case by a new bracket to help increase airflow, while the power supply is now modular with a separate USB cable.
The new version of the Mini Xplus is available now for $84, and the company has stated that it plans to sell a version with 1 GB of RAM in the future. This might be the perfect little device to use as a streaming media box on top your TV in the living room.
Although the set-top box ships with Android, it is more than capable of running other Linux-based operating systems as well.
