Nettops are typically systems that don’t offer loads of raw processing power. However, such devices do boast a smaller footprint, cheaper price and quieter operation.
Recently, J&W detailed a pair of new nettops slated to land in September as part of the M001 family. Both of the machines are fanless, making them very quiet indeed.
The new devices include the M001-AP6 and the M001-AP1, starting at $260 and $300 (base price), respectively.
The AP6 – which measures 135 x 128 x 34 mm – is powered by an Intel Atom CedarView CPU (1.6GHZ- 1.8GHz) paired with SGX545 graphics and supports HD audio along with 1080p video. The little machine is fitted with 2GB of DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM (can scale up to 4GB) and is equipped with a 32GB SSD (scales up to 128 GB), along with a memory card slot for SD modules.
Additional key features include integrated WiFi and the ability to support IR controls along with multiple operating systems – including Windows.
The AP1 runs an Intel D2550 processor at 1.8 GHz paired with SGX545 graphics. As expected, this iteration of the nettop – which includes integrated WiFi – also supports 1080p HD video and HD audio. The base configuration includes 2 GB of RAM, with support for up to 4 GB. Storage is covered by a 2.5-inch 5400 RPM 320 GB HDD.
The machine also has a memory card reader and can support hard drives up to 1 TB capacity. This machine doesn’t ship with an OS but supports multiple operating systems, including Windows. The AP1 is slightly thicker than the A6, measuring in at 135 x 128 x 46 mm.
Connectivity options on both devices include USB, HDMI, VGA, ethernet and more.
