Amazon is reportedly prepping a set-top box capable of playing games and streaming movies from multiple online platforms including Prime Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu Plus.
As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, support for gaming could help set the upcoming device apart from other set-top boxes like Apple TV and Roku, both of which are primarily designed for streaming online videos, music and perhaps supporting some light gaming like Angry Birds.
“The [Amazon set-top box] Bluetooth controller features analog sticks, direction buttons, shoulder buttons, and X, Y, B, and A buttons for gaming,” said Linder.
”It also has dedicated keys for Android functions including Home, Back, and Menu as well as media buttons for play/pause, forward, and back.”
Linder also pointed out that the set-top box would make an interesting addition to Amazon’s ecosystem, as it will likely allow users to access their games, music, movies and books across multiple platforms: PCs, tablets, smartphones and set-top boxes.
