B&N may be prepping new Nook device

Just in time to correspond with Amazon’s expected tablet reveal, new rumors are popping up about Barnes & Noble’s tablet strategy.

According to a new report on the e-book blog Digital Reader, the brick-and-mortal retail chain will launch a new version of its Nook device by the end of the year.

This one will be a pricier, more feature-rich gadget and is likely to look and feel more like a tablet than a traditional e-reader. The report suggests the new B&N product may carry a name other than ‘Nook’ and could be priced at around $349.

The publication mentions that the device will possibly be called the “Acclaim” and could launch as early as next month.

Of course, this speculation happens to correspond perfectly with the expected unveiling of Amazon’s much hyped Android tablet, which may occur in just a couple days. Amazon is holding a media event in New York City this Wednesday, where it is widely believed the online retailer will debut the device.

Amazon’s wildly successful Kindle has proven to be a smash hit in the world of e-readers, so many are looking to a full-featured Amazon tablet as the potential iPad killer that everyone has been waiting for.

While virtually no solid details have leaked about the Amazon tablet, it is expected to carry the Kindle name and to be priced somewhere in the range of $250.
