Not interested in shelling out the big bucks for Apple’s overhyped iPad? Well, Archos has introduced two new Android-based tablet devices with a fairly reasonable $200-$223 price tag.
However, it should be noted that the 7- and 8-inch “Home” tablets are powered by an admittedly moderate 600MHz ARM 9 processor.
Nevertheless, the devices – which are designed to “bridge the gap” between smartphones and desktop PCs – boast built-in Wi-Fi, integrated USB, 2/4/8GB of integrated memory and a long battery life capable of playing seven hours of video or 44 hours of audio.
The Archos 7 Home Tablet will be available in 2 GB and 8 GB configurations at £129.99 ($193) and £149.99 ($223) from April 2010, while the 4GB Archos 8 is expected to go on sale in May at £129.99 ($193).
Finally, a new range of Archos Internet Tablets, based on an ARM Cortex up to 1 GHz, will also be launched in summer 2010.
The next-gen tablets are slated to offer an expanded set of features, with screen sizes ranging from 3″ to 10″.
