A recently discovered patent indicates that Apple may be planning to add a camera and additional sensors to future generations of its multi-touch iPod nano.
Entitled “Environment Sensitive Display Tags,” the patent discusses new sensors and a camera which would add upgraded functionality to the already popular device.
The above-mentioned hardware includes a motion sensor, microphone and temperature gauge.
All could potentially be used to power a new iteration of nano software, which would facilitate the unique display of real-time content, interactive games and screensavers on the uber-micro iPod.
News of the patent comes just days after reports that Apple’s seventh-gen iPod nano is likely to feature a rear-facing camera.
It is worth noting that the current iPod nano isn’t powered by iOS, but rather, boasts its own specially tailored operating system.
