Amazon refreshed its Kindle e-reader lineup on Wednesday, alongside the launch of its long-awaited Fire tablet.
The “latest generation” Kindle features a new design and weighs in at just 5.98 ounces. The $79 device is 18% smaller than the previous Kindle, and turns pages 10% faster.
The Kindle Touch is currently price at $99. It boasts a an easy-to-use touch screen, which makes it easier to turn pages, search, shop and take notes. The Touch is also lighter, offers extra-long battery life and stores thousands of books.
The Kindle Touch 3G – which carries a $149 price tag – is loaded with the same specs as the standard Kindle Touch, but adds a free 3G connection, without a monthly fee or annual contract.
All of the above-mentioned devices offer instant access to the Kindle Store. Millions of free, out-of-copyright, pre-1923 books are also available to read on Kindle devices, and Kindle customers can now borrow Kindle books from their public library.
Amazon dubs its Kindle books “buy once, read everywhere” – as they can be viewed on Kindle, Kindle Touch/3G, Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, PCs, Mac, Android phones/tablets, BlackBerry, Windows phones, and web browsers with Kindle Cloud Reader.
