The Italian-based DaVinci Mobile has debuted a 10.1-inch tablet designed to dual-boot Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and Ubuntu 12.04 Linux.
The slick device is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 4412 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor paired with Mali 400 graphics.
Additional specs include a 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS display with 16 million colors, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
As expected, the Kite tablet is equipped with both front and rear (2 megapixel) cameras, along with WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, as well as microUSB, HDMI and microSD ports.
An optional docking station with a keyboard is slated to be sold separately, creating a more work-friendly environment for those who are so inclined.
The Kite – which weighs 1.2 pounds (560 grams) – is up for pre-order with a March shipping date for 309 Euros, or approximately $410.
The price point is fairly reasonable, although it doesn’t include VAT or shipping, but I’d personally like to see the nost recent version of Android (Jelly Bean 4.2) loaded on the tablet.
Still, I’m sure quite a lot of devs would be willing to shell out the extra cash for the convenience of having both operating systems – Android and Linux – so readily available on a single tablet.
