Google’s recently announced LG Nexus 4 Android smartphone features a SlimPort that supports tethered display sharing.
A company known as Analogix Semiconductor has confirmed that it is selling SlimPort accessories for the new smartphone, the first of which are now available and can be purchased on Amazon.com in the US and Europe.
Essentally, SlimPort accessories allow the Nexus 4 smart phone to connect directly to any HDTV, monitor, or projector using a special cable.
“Whether enjoying games, photos and videos your way or presenting to a large audience, SlimPort accessories add endless value to your smartphone,” explained Analogix exec Andre Bouwer. “With robust camera technology [and] apps like Google Now and Google Play running on Android 4.2, the Nexus 4 will hold it all. And when combined with SlimPort accessories you can use it all, wherever you go, on any screen, without running out of battery.”
As noted above, not only can the adapters stream video from the Nexus 4 to a big screen TV, but the SlimPort can also be used to charge the smartphone from the power flowing via the connected HDMI cable.
As expected, there are a number of SlimPort cables available to support various connectivity options, including HDMI, VGA, DVI, and DisplayPort. The first cable is dubbed the SP1002 – which supports HDMI connectivity – is available right now in the US and Europe for $30.
