Google’s next official “Nexus” product is a new 4-inch smartphone being manufactured by LG.
The search giant was supposed to unveil the device at a grand event this morning in New York City. However, a massive hurricane that is merging with an extratropical system on the East Coast caused the entire city to come to a crippling hault.
So unfortunately, the announcement will not get all the coverage that Google was probably hoping for, but it did still decide to let the news go live today.
The Nexus 4 has a 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus display, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. There is 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of memory and an 8-megapixel rear camera with a 1.3-megapixel front camera.
Other features include wireless charging and Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality.
Because it gets Google’s brand Nexus labeling, it should be one of the big smartphones for the holiday season. It is the first Nexus phone since the launch of the Nexus 7 tablet so Google’s brand power will be stronger this time than any other time.
“This is the first time we collaborated with LG to build a Nexus device. They brought an extraordinary amount of talent to the project, and the result is a feature-packed device that feels great in your hand, and blazingly fast under the hood,” a Google rep said.
