American Airlines equips first class with Galaxy Tab

In an effort to get more people aware of its tablet brand, Samsung has forged a new partnership with American Airlines.

The deal will also help brand the Galaxy Tab as a high-class entertainment device suitable for business executives and the like. The device has been integrated in the first and business class cabins on select 767 aircraft from American.

The Galaxy Tab’s purpose will be to effectively become the new in-flight entertainment system, giving users a proprietary American Airlines interface where they can watch videos and listen to music. There are more than 70 movies loaded onto the device.

American Airlines marketing VP Rob Friedman stated, “We continue to move forward with our efforts to modernize the travel experience by using the innovative Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to provide inflight entertainment onboard.”

Eligible flights include transcontinental journeys from New York and Miami to Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as international jaunts to Europe.

“The addition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to American’s inflight amenities illustrates the Tab’s universal appeal to a variety of customers. With its Android platform, ultra-slim, lightweight design, a brilliant 10-inch touchscreen and an array of entertainment options, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will provide a world-class entertainment experience for travelers onboard American Airlines,” said Samsung Mobile VP Tim Wagner.
