The Surena 2 walks, bows, and stands on one leg. Sarah Palin says, “You know who else can stand on one leg? Obama, that’s who!”
World War III just wouldn’t be the same without the Iranians and they know it so, now, they’re out there, shoving their robots in our face and saying, “Our robots are only for peaceful purposes.” But everyone knows that robots are going to kill us all some day and not just because they can say cool things like, Hasta La Vista, Baby, while they do it. No, they will kill us all because, they are being built by nerds who hate people and are out to prove that people are really superfluous.
Now, you have Iranian nerds who are being glorified by a man who probably got wedgied to a mental breakdown, Iranian President Ahmadinejad, and this is all going to go horribly wrong for all of us.
But, I digress. According to the Islamic Republic’s own press release:
“President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a special ceremony on Saturday unveiled the second Iranian made robot man in Tehran. The robot man dubbed as Sorina 2 was designed and manufactured by some 20 Iranian experts from Tehran University. The robot man can replace human being in carrying out sensitive tasks in different situations. Simultaneous with the “Day of Industry and Mine” honored in presence of President Ahmadinejad, the robot was unveiled in the hall of Summit conference. The robot man is modeled upon human being and can walk on.
Sorina 2 with 12 degree of movement in feet, 8 degree of movement in hands and two degree of movement in head could carry out instructed programs. Walking like human beings, synchronize movements of feet and hands are among the characteristics of Sorina 2. Iranian scientists and researchers successfully manufactured and unveiled the first ever Iranian made robot man Sorina 1 in 2008. Sorina 1 was able to pave its pre-defined path by sensitive path finder system and was able to read special texts.
The move indicates that the Iranian scientists are on the right track of scientific development and success.”
The IEEE Spetrum Magazine has a video of the Surena 2 (that’s how it spells it) on its YouTube Page:
