Once it was turned over to other directors, the X-Men movies really took a dive in quality, and when Bryan Singer came back to the X-Men franchise, it was better than ever.
The original X-Men team will soon be going on to other things, even Hugh Jackman will be hanging up his claws, and but the movies should continue on, and now the Gambit spin off movie has a director.
As Variety reports, Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will helm the Gambit movie, which is slated to hit theaters the same year as X-Men: Apocalypse. Apocalypse, which will be the last Singer directed X-Men movie, will hit theaters on May 27, 2016, while the Gambit movie will hit theaters on October 7, 2016.
Magic Mike himself, Channing Tatum, will be playing Gambit in the spin-off movie, taking over from Taylor Kitsch, who played the character from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (Can you believe Keanu Reeves was up for the role at one point?)
