Marvel Studios has released yet more clips for the upcoming X-Men prequel, and at this point, I’m really starting to feel like I’ve seen all the good bits.
No, I don’t normally give spoiler warnings. Mostly I trust that my audience knows that some small spoilers are just a natural part of this kind of reporting, but these clips are different. The spoilers that Marvel is pushing out ahead of this film are so ghastly, I almost feel guilty sharing them.
Perhaps this is an experiment. Sure, films usually release some clips out on the internet in the weeks leading up to release, but this is more than I’ve ever seen.
Do audiences really want to see over a dozen of the best scenes of a film before they see the film? I mean: there’s bound to be a few people out there who are not spoiler sensitive, but is it a typical trait? I feel like there are more people out there for whom this much spoiling is a turn-off, than those for whom it is attractive.
That’s not to mention that most of the audience for this movie probably already decided that they were going to see it the moment it was announced, needing no advertising at all.

The first is a two-parter of the pre-Magneto figure, Shaw, as he attempts to recruit Charles’ first students:
The second shows us Emma Frost’s diamond form and reveals the beginnings of the mutantist sentiments:
Here is some character development for Erik and the future Mystique:
Next we get a look at Banshee’s echo-location:
Then, Erik has some holocaust flashbacks when Charles tries to calm him down:
Finally a bit of humor as Charles and Erik teach Sean Cassidy to fly:
The official film synopsis is this:
X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.
Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time.
Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
