There will surely be a successor to the Xbox 360, but what will it be called and when will it come out? Here’s an answer from Hollywood.
So there’s a movie coming out for the fall flick season called Real Steel. You’ve probably seen the trailers for it – Hugh Jackman stars in the cinematic saga about a world where fighting robot competitions is the big spectator sport around the world.
The movie is set in the year 2020 and features high-tech, futuristic stadiums and arenas where the robot battles take place.
Apparently one thing that doesn’t change nine years from now is product ads in sporting arenas. The stadiums have scrolling ads from such evergreen, sure-to-still-br-around-in-2020 companies as Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Cadillac, and of course Del Taco.
But some eagle-eyed gamers noticed in fleeting shots from the trailer that there’s also an advertisement for “Xbox 720.”
These ads appear to be very genuine product placements from companies who likely paid to appear in the movie. So it would seem logical that the Xbox 720 ad was specifically requested from Microsoft.
It seems like a subtle hint from the company that the new console could be named the Xbox 720 as many have already predicted, but moreover, stressing the idea that whatever the next Xbox is, it will still be relevant in the year 2020.
Then again, this could be much ado about nothing. Either way, check out the trailer and see if you can spot the subliminal message:
