World’s first 3D porn movie begins filming

The 3D mantra of “so real you can practically touch it” is about to take on a whole new meaning, as filmmakers in Hong Kong have cut the ribbon on what they claim is the first 3D porno ever made.

3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy sounds like the most awful name for an adult movie ever, but it’s set in stone as the first 3D movie of its kind, and it is set for a May 2011 release. In addition to distribution throughout Asia, the Sunday Morning Post reports that the film crew has already received calls from Europe and the US.

Producer Stephen Shiu said that deals are already beginning to line up from pay TV providers in Hong Kong, and similar offers are being discussed in Japan and Korea.

Japanese porn stars Yukiko Suo and Saori Hara are confirmed as the leads in the upcoming flick, which is apparently based on The Carnal Prayer Mat, a classic erotic Chinese tale.

“Orgies” and “very graphic sex scenes” are expected to be part of the production, according to the paper.

The test of a new medium has historically been whether or not adult films could thrive. It was a multi-billion dollar industry for both VHS and DVD, although the Blu-ray Disc Association has remained firm on its stance to not allow pornographic content on the high-def format. A couple of low-budget pornos briefly made a run on rival format HD DVD.
