Unplugging: Garbage is back, and so are the Beach Boys

This week hailed the resurgence of various bands from the past, so come bask in nostalgia with us as we watch these glorified blast-from-the-pasts make their sweet comebacks.

In light of their upcoming 50th anniversary, the surviving members of The Beach Boys have hinted at a huge blowout reunion tour, and a possible new LP. Guitarist Al Jardine spoke with Rolling Stone about the band’s anniversary plans to play about 100 amphitheaters worldwide.

Although when this massive tour may commence is yet to be determined, Jardine assured Rolling Stone that the tour will happen “whenever the buyers think it’s the right time for us.” The band recently filmed a re-recording session of “Do It Again,” as a promotional video to use for their upcoming world tour. Although the archive release of Smile Sessions is set to be released November 1st, Brian Wilson has denied rumors of a possible reunion record.

London’s Coronet will welcome the British super group The Good, The Bad & The Queen on November 10th, marking the group’s first live performance since 2008. The group consists of former Blur member and Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn, former Clash bassist Paul Simonon, former Verve member Simon Tong and drummer Tony Allen- hence their “super group” status.

Their 2007 album The Good, The Bad & The Queen (Albarn claims the band is unnamed, and that the album is not self-titled) was well received in the UK, topping the UK Albums Chart upon its debut. The band is ending their 3-year hiatus in support of the 40th anniversary of Greenpeace.

Former Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeff Mangum has been making spontaneous musical appearances for the last few years; last weekend he performed for the All Tomorrow’s Parties I’ll Be Your Mirror Festival. This week Mangum joined the Occupy Wall Street protest to give a live performance for those gathered on Wall Street. Protestors gathered around Mangum as he took requests and strummed his acoustic guitar. His impromptu performance was broadcasted for free over Livestream.

The “improvisational hardcore band” and comedy troupe Puscifer, has announced their first North American tour for their sophomore album, Conditions of My Parole. Out October 18th via Puscifer Entertainment, this is the group’s first release in three years.

The tour commences on November 7th in Seattle, but in the meantime the group is set to perform its television debut on The David Letterman Show this Halloween.

Fronted by Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, Puscifer’s upcoming album was recorded in his homeland of northern Arizona. Tickets for the upcoming tour can be purchased via Ticketmaster and Live Nation starting October 7th.

What’s to be their fifth studio release after a lengthy seven-year hiatus, Garbage has returned to release a new album sometime in the spring of 2012. At the moment the album is untitled, but the band has already released a teaser video last month via Facebook.

Mixed by Billy Bush and Butch Vig, Garbage’s album is bound to be something of intense substance. The album is currently being recorded in a basement in Los Angeles, CA. Their 1995 self-titled debut release gained the group double platinum standing in Australia, the UK and the U.S.
