Microsoft Xbox 360 sales exceed 30 million

Sales of Xbox 360 consoles have passed the 30 million mark, according to a statement from Microsoft.

And active members of its Xbox LIVE community now counts over 20 million people. Microsoft claimed that the Xbox 360 has showed the highest percentage growth in hardware sales of any console in 2009, up by 28 percent, according to the NPD Group.

Since the Xbox 360 was launched, US customers have spent $14.5 billion across all categories. Worldwide, people have downloaded nearly one billion pieces of games and entertainment from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

That, said Microsoft, included premium high and standard def movies, as well as TV shows from around the world.

Xbox 360 customers, said Microsoft, own an average of 8.3 titles, while third party publishers have generated $5.9 billion in sales in US stores.

Lots of billions there. Microsoft promises some “exciting” announcements at the E3 show in LA, which starts on June the 1st.
